Second grade students are focusing on the parts of sentences and the different types of sentences. They will be learning about subjects (the naming part of a sentence) and predicates (the telling part of the sentence). The types of sentences they will be learning about are statements (telling sentences), questions, commands, and exclamations.
Also, the second graders will use what they have learned about sentences to help craft a story about a time they were surprised using a beginning, middle, and end.
All grade levels are beginning or continuing to learn about academic conversations (school talk). Academic conversations include listening carefully, staying on topic, answering and speaking in complete sentences (steal and slide), and being respectful (not distracting).
